German

German is a new language offered to 5 teaching sets in Years 8 and 9. The emphasis is on enjoying learning, using games to build vocabulary and phrases to communicate. The girls also gain cultural knowledge of German-speaking countries. We use "Echo Express", Book 1 in Year 8 and Book 2 in Year 9. Flexidays are on the topics of Food and Places in the Town.

Currently, in year 10 and 11, girls follow the Edexcel GCSE full course. We use "Logo 4 rot". Coursework is worth 25% of the final grade. There is a Speaking exam, also worth 25%, conducted by the teacher, recorded and sent to the exam board for marking. Listening and Reading are assessed by examination. Flexidays in Year 10 are devoted to widening cultural understanding through film, music and making the acquaintance of famous German speaking people, dead or alive! In Year 11, thorough preparation for the oral exam is the focus.
