ASDAN - COPE (Certificate of Personal Effectiveness)

The very best thing about the COPE is that it can be tailored to the strengths and weaknesses of the individual student. It allows them to gain credit from what they have learnt, from the wide variety of activities that they already do.

It helps students to demonstrate a range of skills, recognise personal achievements and develop their employability and personal effectiveness.

But best of all it adds to GCSE qualifications! The COPE award is issued at Level 1 (equivalent to GCSE grades E/F) and Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE grade B). And there are no examinations! Students produce evidence of their achievements in a portfolio, which is checked by their teacher and then marked by the ASDAN External Moderator.

Students complete challenges from some of the following modules; Communication, Citizenship, Sport and Leisure, Independent Living, The Environment, Vocational Preparation, Health and Fitness, Work Related Learning and Enterprise, Science and Technology, International Links, Expressive Arts and Beliefs and Values.

To gain the COPE students must :
- 'Plan, do and review' various challenges
- Develop and provide evidence of working with others, improving own learning and problem solving
- Develop and provide evidence of research, discussion and presentation skills
