Groups and Sets 2011/12

Each student is allocated to a colour group for registration and Personal Development (PD). In Year 8 only the following subjects are also taught in colour groups: Art, Textiles, Drama, PE and Music.

Year 7

There is one mixed ability class which has an HLTA for most lessons as well as their class teacher. The class is split into two for Design & Technology. Maths is taught in ability groups with Year 8.

Year 8

The 10 form entry is split into 2 halves with 3 higher and 2 core ability sets on each half. These groups are broadly setted by ability. In Art, Music, Creative Textiles, PE and Drama students are in Mixed ability tutor groups (known as colour groups). Students are in smaller groups for DT for H&S reasons. Students are setted in Maths differently according to Maths ability.

D, A, V - Higher (study French and Spanish)
I, S - Core (study Spanish)

Y HALF
O, N, T - Higher (study French and German)
E, C - Core (study German)
Students withdrawn for support as needed

LETS - LEARN ENGAGE THINK SUCCEED
What is LETS?
LETS uses a thematic style of curriculum, to improve both academic subject knowledge and skills amongst our core pupils. Year 8 core pupils will be taught three LETS lessons per fortnight.
- Taught through thematic and skills driven topics
- Developing functional skills
- Encouraging pupils to independently take responsibility for their own learning
- Developing emotionally strong young women
- To prepare students for KS4

Year 9

Years 10 and 11

These year groups are divided into two academic blocks X and Y - with a mixture of academic abilities in each block. Groups are divided into sets according to ability in a subject area or choice of course.

DT and options are taught in 3 further blocks with other option subjects, extending across the whole year group, according to student choice at option time.
